BKLM ADVISOR INTELLIGENCE · OCTOBER 2026

Bigger is a headline. Better service is the test.

Use industry consolidation to sharpen your own service strategy.

Published October 20, 2026 · BKLM Consulting

The developments below span different parts of the wealth-management industry. Taken together, they provide useful starting points for a firm’s own strategic discussion. They are not directly comparable transactions, and assets under management or client assets should not be confused with acquisition prices.

Nuveen completes the Schroders acquisition

Nuveen announced completion on October 1. The combined organization reported $2.6 trillion in assets under management across institutional and wealth channels. This is an asset-management combination with a global scope, rather than a typical acquisition of a local advisory practice.

BKLM’s question for advisors: When a provider changes ownership or scale, what does it mean for the specific resources your clients use? Review your service contacts, investment access, and due-diligence process. A larger platform is relevant when it improves something you can identify and evaluate.

Wealth Enhancement agrees to acquire RWA Wealth Partners

The September 30 announcement described an agreement involving RWA, which reported approximately $22.46 billion in client assets as of June 30. Wealth Enhancement highlighted the addition of family-office expertise, including trust, estate, and tax capabilities. Its release said the transaction was expected to close in the fourth quarter; the distinction matters when evaluating which capabilities are available today and which depend on closing.

BKLM’s question for advisors: How well do your specialists work together around a complex client? Map the handoffs among investment, planning, legal, tax, and administrative professionals. A client may experience the coordination between those disciplines as clearly as the quality of any individual recommendation.

Merit adds Moldenhauer & Associates

Merit’s October news coverage described Moldenhauer & Associates as a $1.1 billion practice. The firm’s client announcement gives September 25, 2026 as the effective date of joining Merit. Keeping those two dates separate helps readers distinguish new reporting from the underlying event.

BKLM’s question for advisors: If your firm joins a larger organization, how will you explain the practical changes to clients? Identify what becomes available, who remains responsible for their service, and which steps clients will need to take. The explanation should be specific enough for a client to understand what the transaction means for their relationship.

BKLM Perspective

For independent owners, the strategic choice is often whether to build a capability, obtain it through a partner, or access it within a larger firm. Start with a defined client need. Estimate the ongoing effort and responsibility involved in each option, and identify how you will judge whether the choice is working.

That exercise can make the industry’s largest announcements useful to a much smaller firm. The goal is to improve the business and client experience you are responsible for—not to reproduce someone else’s scale.

Build, partner, or join: frame the choice

  1. Build internally. Who would own delivery? Estimate hiring, supervision, technology, and the demand needed to sustain the service.
  2. Partner with specialists. Who coordinates the work? Define handoffs, response expectations, client communications, and the response when a case stalls.
  3. Join a larger firm. Which capabilities would actually be available to your clients? Confirm eligibility, access, implementation responsibilities, and ongoing cost.
  4. Test the result. Choose one recurring client situation and describe what a better experience would look like. Use that same test for all three options.

Your next step: Bring one real service gap to the discussion. A concrete case makes it easier to distinguish a broader list of capabilities from a better experience for the clients you serve.
